Toyota launches mobility services brand Kinto

Date: 14 January 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

Kinto is Toyota's new brand for mobility services across Europe. It will serve cities, corporate customers and individuals.

With this new brand, the car manufacturer wants to evolve into a 'mobility company'. It aims to increase its share of the full-service leasing (FSL) market.

It wants to use the power of data and vehicle connectivity to launch services such as car sharing, carpooling and subscription services where viable. In the long term, Kinto should also be Toyota's platform to make use of advances in automated driving and automated mobility as a service.

Kinto will comprise a number of different services. Kinto One will be a full-service leasing offering that provides ease of ownership by combining vehicle, servicing and insurance in a single monthly payment.

Kinto Share will be a car sharing service which uses a large line-up of hybrid vehicles, available via a self-service concept, without running costs. Toyota's existing car-sharing service Yuko, which operates in several European cities, will be re-branded under Kinto.

Kinto Flex will offer subscription-based car leasing. Finally, Kinto Join will connect people who want to share their daily commute, to allow them to carpool.

The brand name Kinto is derived from the Japanese word Kintoun, or Flying Nimbus, the name of a cloud which provides on-demand transport for a famous animated character in Japan.
