Pricing announced of facelifted, EV-only Smart EQ

Date: 22 January 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

Smart has announced pricing and specs of the facelifted Fortwo and Forfour, which return as pure electric cars, with no petrol or diesel options.

The two-seater Fortwo EQ starts at a P11D of £20,295, while the five-door Forfour EQ has a P11D of £20,730. Being EVs, they both benefit from the plug-in car grant, which reduces their on-the-road prices to £16,850 and £17,285, respectively.

As the new Smart EQs are EVs, the BIK rate is 16% if registered before April, dropping to 0% if registered after.

Both cars have an electric motor with 82hp and a 17.6kWh battery, giving them a 70-mile range. That's a bit of an issue given that the Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii have also been reinvented as electric cars and cost marginally more than the Smart, but offer more than double the range, at just over 160 miles.

A 22kW on-board charger is included as standard, and allows for a 10-80% charge in 40 minutes.

Four equipment grades are available: passion advanced, pulse premium, prime exclusive and edition 1. Standard specification on all models includes a multifunction leather steering wheel, rear parking sensors, automatic climate control and a 7in infotainment system with navigation and charging station finder functionality, Bluetooth, DAB, Android Auto and Mirrorlink.

First customer deliveries are expected from March 2020.
