Jeep has revealed a plug-in hybrid version of its Renegade SUV.

Badged the 4xe, it pairs a 1.3-litre petrol engine, producing either 130hp or 180hp, with a 60hp electric motor.

An 11.4kWh battery allows an electric driving range of up to 26 miles on the WLTP cycle.

Overall CO2 emissions are less than 50g/km, while fuel consumption is between 123mpg and 134mpg.

The 4xe comes with four-wheel drive, with the rear wheels driven by the electric motor, and a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Three equipment grades are available - Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk, with the latter more specialised for off-road driving.

A range of connected car services are on offer via the Uconnect system, including emergency and roadside support, checking car information, remote charging and vehicle status controls, and help finding charging facilities.

Among the available cost add-on packages with Uconnect is My Fleet Manager, a web portal designed for managing small fleets.

Standard interior equipment includes a 7in driver display, an 8.4in touchscreen with sat-nav, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, and DAB radio.

Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning, lane departure warning, intelligent speed assist, traffic sign recognition, and front and rear parking sensors.

LED headlights are also standard.

The Renegade 4xe will arrive in showrooms in September. Prices start at £32,600 for the Longitude, rising to £34,500 for the Limited and £36,500 for the Trailhawk.
