Facelifted Jeep Compass brings new petrol engine, hybrids and dual-clutch gearbox

Jeep has announced a facelifted version of its Compass medium SUV. It gets a new 1.3-litre petrol engine, an automatic option on front-wheel drive models and upgraded infotainment.
The Compass, which operates in the same popular segment as cars like the VW Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and Peugeot 3008, was built in Mexico for the European market, but will now be built in Fiat's Italian Melfi factory to reduce lead times.
The engine range is getting a revamp with a new petrol engine. A new 1.3-litre turbo replaces the old 1.4. It's available with either 130hp or 150hp. A 1.6-litre diesel with 120hp remains available as well, but the 2.0-litre diesel was deleted from the range some time ago and isn't likely to return.
All engines come with front-wheel drive and six-speed manual gearboxes are standard, but the 150hp petrol can be optionally fitted with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Two plug-in hybrid models, dubbed 4xe, will be introduced later in the year. Both will have all-wheel drive and use the new petrol engine and will offer 190hp or 240hp. Jeep will announce further details closer to the launch date.
The updated Jeep Compass will get the latest version of Fiat-Chrysler's UConnect infotainment system using either a 7in or 8.4in touch screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard.
To appeal more to European drivers, Jeep has also reworked the suspension and handling, offering more progressive steering, as well as better ride comfort and handling thanks to different dampers.
