Citroen reveals new C4 hatchback - including all-electric version

Date: 17 June 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

Citroen has revealed images of the new C4, its Golf and Focus rival. No technical details have been announced, other than that there will be a pure-electric ë-C4.

The images show a higher-riding, almost SUV-like interpretation of the hatchback genre. It also features a more sloping rear roofline than most hatchbacks.

When it goes on sale in the latter half of 2020, the new C4 will offer the choice of petrol, diesel or electric powertrains, benefiting from the technology used across the PSA Group, which also includes Peugeot, Vauxhall and DS.

The group is already applying this philosophy of offering electric and conventional powertrains in the same body with the Peugeot 208, Vauxhall Corsa and DS3 Crossback. Those three cars are one segment smaller, however.

Although no details on engines have been announced, it is highly likely that we will see the 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech with 110 or 130hp, and an optional eight-speed automatic. On the diesel side, the 1.5-litre BlueHDI with 130hp is almost a given.

Citroen emphasises its renewed focus on comfort, rather than sporty handling. As such, the C4 will feature Citroen's Advanced Comfort seats and soft suspension with 'Progressive Hydraulic Cushions'.
