New Suzuki Across revealed as plug-in hybrid SUV

Date: 03 July 2020   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Suzuki has pulled the covers off its new Across, a plug-in hybrid SUV.

It's based on the Toyota Rav4, and is the first model to arrive under a collaborative agreement between Toyota and Suzuki.

The Across is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine, along with two electric motors - a 134kW motor mounted at the front, and a 40kW motor at the rear, with the latter allowing the car to operate with four-wheel drive.

The electricity comes from an 18.1kWh battery pack, which allows an electric driving range of up to 46 miles, while the PHEV powertrain as a whole is said to emit just 22g/km of CO2 on the WLTP cycle.

Onboard technology with the Across includes a 9in touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, while the boot measures 490 litres.

Driver assistance technology includes autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

The Across is set to arrive in Europe in Autumn 2020. Prices and UK specs are yet to be confirmed.
