Mercedes B250e plug-in hybrid priced from £35,280

Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specifications for the plug-in hybrid version of its small MPV, the B 250 e.

The Mercedes B 250 e is now on sale, with first deliveries expected in late summer. It is only available with AMG Line Executive equipment grade or higher, so prices start from £35,280. The AMG Line Premium equipment line costs £36,780, while the AMG Line Premium Plus is £38,280.

Like the A 250 e, CLA 250 e and GLA 250 e, which are based on the same platform, the B 250 e uses a 1.3-litre petrol engine and a 10.6kWh battery. In the B-Class, this makes for a pure-electric range of 42 miles. As usual with hybrids, an automatic gearbox is standard - an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic in this case.

This means a BIK rate of just 6%, meaning company car drivers on 20% income tax pay just £12 per month.

It's fairly rare to still offer an MPV like the B-Class, making the B 250 e's main rival the BMW 225xe active tourer.

All B 250 e models get the 10.2in MBUX multimedia system as standard, as well as synthetic leather and microfibre seats which are heated in the front, 18in wheels, and the parking and mirror packages.

AMG Line Premium adds a digital driver display, augmented reality for navigation, keyless go, and an upgraded sound system.

AMG Line Premium Plus adds a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, memory seats for driver and front passenger, and traffic sign assist. For an extra £1,495, the driving assistance package adds a brace of active safety features.
