Date: 10 March 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

Gridserve, an energy and vehicle charging company, has announced it has started construction on its first 'electric forecourt', which will be able to rapid charge 24 vehicles at once.

The first of these charging hubs is scheduled to open this summer in Braintree, Essex, and is supposed to be the first of network of 100 'electric forecourts', as Gridserve has termed the hubs. The sites are aimed at both private and fleet markets.

It will feature rapid chargers that can deliver up to 350kW, allowing cars that are also capable of such high charging speeds to be charged in 20-30 minutes.

At the moment, no cars support 350kW charging. One of the fastest-charging cars currently on sale is the Porsche Taycan, the charging speeds of which peak at 270kW.

The sites will also feature a coffee shop, convenience supermarket, and a lounge with wi-fi.
