Deliveries of VW Golf halted

Date: 18 May 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

VW has had to pause deliveries of the Golf because of a software issue with the e-call system.

The latest generation of the Golf has only been on sale in the UK since the start of the year.  The Skoda Octavia, which shares a lot of the Golf's architecture, also has the issue, but as UK deliveries for the Octavia are only set to begin in summer, they are unlikely to be affected.

German news magazine Der Spiegel reported that there is a software issue with the e-call-system that is shared between the two VW Group cars.

The system, which can contact emergency services in the event of an accident, has been mandatory for cars sold in the EU since March 2018.

A fix is reportedly in the works for the next few days, with a recall for existing vehicles likely to follow.
