Pure-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge goes on sale for £53,155

Date: 28 May 2020   |   Author: Illya Verpraet

Volvo's first electric car, based on the XC40 SUV, is now available to order from £53,155, with the first UK deliveries expected early next year.

Volvo claims the XC40 Recharge will do more than 249 miles on a charge, and with the right rapid charger, the battery can be topped up to 80% in 40 minutes.

It is also taking advantage of not having a combustion engine in the front, creating extra luggage space under the bonnet, even if it is only 30 litres.

Initially, at least, the XC40 Recharge will only be available as a top-spec R-Design equipment grade. The £53,155 price also means it doesn't qualify for the OLEV plug-in car grant, as this year's Budget introduced a price cap of £50,000.

New for the pure-electric XC40 is a new infotainment system that is not shared with the regular or plug-in hybrid XC40s. The new system will be powered by Google Android, offering embedded Google services and enabling over-the-air updates.
