Licence Check launches new audit feature for grey fleet drivers

Date: 02 November 2020   |   Author: Sean Keywood

A new online audit module has been launched by Licence Check, in anticipation of an increase in grey fleet drivers resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.

The new Driver Audit module within Licence Check's Davis platform asks employees to confirm information such as who is driving for business, the vehicle they use, who owns the vehicle, how far they are driving for work, the times of day they travel, the types of roads they typically use, and their accident history.

The responses given produce a risk score for each driver, which is then aggregated to provide a company-wide risk profile.

Licence Check says this provides evidence of proper risk investigation and assessment, with a clear audit trail for insurers.

The drivers' information can also roll over to other functions within the Davis platform, including the existing grey fleet module which covers issues such as vehicle tax and MOT status.

Licence Check says employers need robust checks in place, with employees increasingly minded to use their own cars for business journeys rather than public transport.

Licence Check general manager Terry Hiles said: "With more employees becoming home based and intending this to be permanent, reduced numbers of company cars and with those that do come into the office avoiding public transport, the only obvious alternative must be people increasingly using their own cars for business purposes.

"The grey fleet issue should become an area of increasing concern in the 'new normal' and robust systems need to be in place to ensure businesses are compliant and fully covered. Doing nothing should not be an option."
