BCA reports increased used car sales volumes as prices fall slightly

Date: 15 April 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

There was high demand for used cars during March, according to BCA, although average sale prices fell slightly.

The auction firm said sold volumes increased significantly compared with January and February, and were now comparable to pre-pandemic levels, with demand expected to increase yet further over the coming weeks.

The average sale price during the month was £8,039, down from £8,212 in February.

BCA said that professional buyers had increased their activity levels in March, to ensure they had stock to meet expected demand ahead of the easing of lockdown conditions in April, with bidder numbers said to be at the highest level since the pandemic started.

BCA COO for UK remarketing Stuart Pearson said: "March 2021 saw a significant increase in remarketing activity, with sold volumes and buyer numbers rising and competitive bidding across the BCA sales programme.

"Anecdotally, there was an expectation amongst professional buyers that the initial relaxing of Lockdown restrictions would generate a potentially significant uptick in retail demand."
