New entry-level Volkswagen ID.3 arrives with smaller battery

Date: 14 April 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has expanded its ID.3 EV range with a new entry-level powertrain and equipment grades.

The new Pure Performance powertrain sits below existing Pro, Pro Performance, and Pro S options in the line-up, and features a smaller 45kWh battery, along with a 150hp electric motor.

Depending on spec, the battery offers a single-charge range of 215-217 miles on the WLTP combined cycle. It can gain up to 137 miles of range from a 100kW rapid charger in 30 minutes, or can be charged from 5-100% in around seven and a half hours using a 7.2kW home charger.

The new powertrain is available with two new equipment grades - City, which becomes the new entry-level option in the range, and Style.

Standard equipment with City includes a 10in touchscreen with sat-nav, wireless smartphone connectivity, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and LED headlights and tail lights.

Standard driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and lane assist.

Further equipment with the Style equipment grade includes 18in alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, tinted windows, two-zone climate control, a variable boot floor, a reversing camera, and keyless entry.

Pure Performance ID.3s go on sale tomorrow. Prices, including the UK Government's plug-in car grant, are £28,370 with the City grade, and £32,470 with Style.
