Polestar 2 range gains cheaper entry point with less powerful variants

Date: 13 April 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

An expanded range line-up has been announced for the Polestar 2 EV.

In addition to the existing powertrain, available since the model's launch last year, which pairs a 408hp dual-motor set-up with a 78kWh battery pack, the model will now also be offered with a single motor producing either 224hp or 231hp - the former with a 64kWh battery pack, and the latter retaining the 78kWh capacity.

Preliminary WLTP cycle figures with the 64kWh model show a range of 260-273 miles on a single charge, while the 231hp 78kWh model is predicted to have the longest range of the line-up at 320-335 miles, ahead of 279-298 miles for the dual-motor spec.

A single equipment grade is offered, but this can be augmented by additional options packs.

Standard equipment throughout the range includes 19in alloy wheels, LED lights, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and an Android Automotive infotainment system featuring an 11in central display and 12.3in driver display.

Of the options packs, the Performance pack - available with the dual motor version only - features adjustable Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes, forged 20-inch alloy wheels and signature 'Swedish gold' details.

The Plus pack includes a panoramic glass roof, a premium Harman Kardon audio system with 13 speakers, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and wipers, WeaveTech upholstery, Black Ash deco panels, fully-electric heated front seats with memory, and a new heat pump.

The Pilot pack features pixel LED headlights with LED front fog lights, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, a 360-degree camera, all-round parking sensors, a blind spot information system with steering support, cross traffic alert with brake support, and rear collision warning.

Prices for the expanded Polestar 2 range - available to order now, only through Polestar's website - start at £39,900 for the 224hp model, and rise to £42,900 with the 231hp motor, and £45,900 with the 408hp powertrain.

The Performance pack can be specced for £5,000, the Plus pack for £4,000, and the Pilot pack for £3,000.
