Volkswagen has opened orders for regular variants of its new ID.4 electric car.

The new ID.4 Pro Performance, available in Life, Family, and Max equipment grades, follows on from the limited-run 1st Edition model.

Pro Performance cars come with a 204hp electric motor and a 77kWh battery. Pure models, with a 52kWh battery, will go on sale in the coming months.

VW says Pro Performance models in Life spec can cover up to 323 miles on a single charge on the WLTP combined cycle, reducing to 318 miles for Family spec and 314 miles for Max.

Standard equipment with the Life grade - which VW expects to be the most popular choice in the UK - includes a 10in touchscreen with sat-nav, inductive smartphone charging, a heated windscreen that is also infrared-reflecting and sound insulated, four USB ports, two-zone climate control, and heating for the front seats and steering wheel.

Further equipment with Family spec includes 19in alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, rear privacy glass, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and a reversing camera.

Additional equipment with Max spec includes a 12in infotainment screen, an augmented reality head-up display, 12-way adjustable sport seats with massage function, a 360-degree camera, remote tailgate unlocking with foot-sensing opening function, adaptive suspension, a heat pump, and the Assistance Plus package, which includes travel assist, lane assist, emergency assist, and side assist systems.

Prices for the ID.4 Pro Performance start at £41,570 for Life grade, rising to £45,520 for Family spec and £49,990 for Max. Deliveries are expected to start during the first week of May.
