New AFRs announced by HMRC

Date: 27 August 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

New advisory fuel rates (AFRs) have been published by HMRC, with increases for petrol and diesel cars.

Compared with the previous set of rates, every single one has been changed, with reductions having been announced for LPG cars.

The advisory electricity rate for EVs remains at 4p per mile. Hybrids are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The new rates will apply from 1 September, but the old rates can still be used for up to one month from that date.

The new rates are as follows:

Diesel:

1,600cc or less: 10ppm (up 1ppm)

1,601cc to 2,000cc: 12ppm (up 1ppm)

Over 2,000cc: 15ppm (up 2ppm)

Petrol:

1,400cc or less: 12ppm (up 1ppm)

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 14ppm (up 1ppm)

Over 2,000cc: 20ppm (up 1ppm)

LPG:

1,400cc or less: 7ppm (down 1ppm)

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 8ppm (down 1ppm)

Over 2,000cc: 12ppm (down 2ppm)
