BMW rolls out Digital Key to Android devices

Date: 02 December 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

BMW's smartphone-based Digital Key system is now available with Android devices.

Having previously only been compatible with iPhones, the system can now also be used with the Samsung Galaxy S21 Series and Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

Digital Key allows BMW drivers to unlock and lock their car by holding their smartphone next to the handle of the driver's door.

The engine can also be started when the phone is placed in the car's wireless charging compartment.

The system is configured via the My BMW app, and is available as an option for most BMW models.

In addition, BMW says a future update will allow the key to be passed on to five friends.
