Pandemic accelerates digitalisation among UK fleets, Webfleet Solutions finds

Nearly three-quarters of UK fleets have adopted more digital systems since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Webfleet Solutions.

Research conducted by the firm found that 74% of fleets had done this, a figure that rose to 80% among smaller fleets of up to 50 vehicles.

The most commonly adopted system was found to be electronic signature technology, by 60% of fleets, followed by mobile apps (50%), and digital document systems such as paperless invoicing (44%).

The most commonly given reason for more digitalisation was increased efficiency, named by 55% of those surveyed, followed by reducing the spread of infection (51%) and sustainability (49%).

Of those who hadn't adopted more digital technology, 28% cited cost as a barrier, and 28% also said they already had enough, while 22% said they lacked the time or resources to implement new systems.

Webfleet Solutions sales director for the UK and Ireland Beverley Wise said: "Covid-19 continues to have a dramatic impact on the way we live and work, making operational flexibility, smart customer interactions, risk management and cost control more important than ever.

"SME businesses, in particular, have had the agility to respond quickly to the ever-changing commercial landscape and have recognised the vital role that technology can play in overcoming the financial and logistical challenges - improving the efficient flow of information, supporting remote working and minimising person-to-person interactions."
