Orders open for new Volkswagen Arteon plug-in hybrid

Date: 14 January 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has launched a new plug-in hybrid version of its Arteon fastback and estate.

The new variant pairs a 1.4-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, for a combined output of 218hp, making it the most powerful model in the Arteon range until the arrival of the upcoming R performance model.

A 13kWh battery means a claimed electric driving range of 39 miles. The battery can be charged in five hours using a domestic three-pin plug, or in just over three-and-a-half hours with a 3.6kW AC charger, as well as being chargeable when driving as with a regular hybrid.

WLTP CO2 emissions figures are 26-31g/km for the fastback, and 27-32g/km for the estate, depending on spec. Fuel economy figures are yet to be announced.

The new powertrain is available with Elegance and R-Line equipment grades. Standard equipment across the range includes adaptive cruise control, three-zone climate control, the Digital Cockpit driver display, 8in touchscreen sat-nav with live data services, and LED headlights.

Plug-in hybrids are available to order now, priced at £39,905 for an Elegance fastback, £40,685 for an R-Line fastback, £40,705 for an Elegance estate, and £41,485 for an R-Line estate.
