Fleets could save more than £17million a year in London Congestion Charge Zone pavements by switching to electrified vehicles, according to Citroën UK.
The manufacturer says that a Freedom of Information request found firms spent more than £1.4million per month between October 2019 and September 2020 to enter and operate in central London, despite a freeze in payments introduced between 23 March and 17 May due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently entry is free to pure EVs, and to plug-in hybrids that have an emissions-free range of at least 20 miles, although the exemption will revert to pure EVs only from 25 October this year.
Citroën UK managing director Eurig Druce said: "Electric vehicles such as the new e-C4 and e-Dispatch van are ideal for business and fleet users. Not only do they suit a variety of driving conditions, their zero emissions capability results in no BIK payments.
"As our latest research shows, businesses also stand to make significant savings in other areas - including Congestion Charge Zone payments."
