Thrifty begins installation of EV chargers at rental sites

Date: 06 July 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Thrifty Car & Van Rental has begun installing EV chargers at its UK branches.

The programme has started with a network of 20 strategically placed charging hubs, along with charging infrastructure being installed at its headquarters in Exeter.

Chargers are scheduled to be installed at all 85 of Thrifty's UK branches by 2023.

The programme involves 7kW and 22kW chargers.

Thrifty's rental fleet currently includes the BMW i3 and Jaguar I-Pace EVs, as well plug-in hybrids including the BMW 225xe Active Tourer, 330e, 530e, 745e and X5 45e, the Range Rover Sport P400e, and the Volvo XC90 Recharge.

Thrifty expects to have more than 15 different EV and plug-in hybrid models available to hire by the end of the year.

Managing director Martin Wilson said: "Hiring an electrified car, either short- or long-term, can be a great way for people to see how it fits their lifestyle.

"We've seen a great demand for both battery EVs and plug-in hybrids in recent months, and so it's important for us to ensure all our sites can offer customers the best possible EV experience.

"Expanding our EV charging network to include all of our sites is the next logical step in our electrification journey, to ensure that our customers continue to receive the exceptional level of service and support that they've come to expect."
