BP Pulse opens first fleet rapid charging hub

Date: 10 June 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

A dedicated rapid charging hub for electric fleet vehicles has been opened in central London by BP Pulse.

The facility, on Park Lane, can currently provide 50kW rapid charging for ten vehicles at once, and BP Pulse plans to more than double its capacity over the coming months.

The hub is said to be the first of hundreds of similar facilities BP Pulse plans to open across London and other UK and European cities by 2030, with the aim of further supporting the transition of businesses and fleets to EVs. A second hub is already under construction in the Westminster area.

The firm said the hubs would be accessible by Uber and other "selected fleet customers".

BP senior vice president for future mobility and solutions Richard Bartlett said: "London anticipates that by 2025 taxis and private hire vehicles will account for 80% of all public charging demand in the city.

"Fast, reliable charging infrastructure in convenient locations is essential to give business and fleet customers the confidence to make the switch to electric.

"That's why we're opening our new hubs at the heart of major cities across the UK and Europe, aiming to keep fleets charged and ready for business - whilst producing zero emissions."
