Volkswagen ID.4 range gains entry-level, grant-eligible model

Date: 13 May 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has expanded its ID.4 electric SUV range, including with a version eligible for the UK Government's plug-in car grant.

The range is being joined by a 52kWh battery option, which sits beneath the existing 77kWh battery in the line-up.

Badged as Pure, the 52kWh battery comes with a 148hp electric motor, or there's a Pure Performance version with a 170hp motor - both have a maximum range of up to 213hp on the official WLTP cycle, and can gain up to 137 miles of range from a 100kW rapid charger within 30 minutes, while a full charge on a 7.2kW home charger takes around seven-and-a-half hours.

Both new powertrains come with a choice of City or Style equipment grades. Standard kit with the City grade includes LED headlights and tail lights, a 10in Discover navigation Pro infotainment system, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors.

Further equipment with the Style grade includes 18in alloy wheels, IQ Light matrix LED headlights with dynamic light assist, tinted rear windows, three-zone climate control, keyless locking and start, and a reversing camera.

Priced at £34,650, the City Pure dips below the £35,000 threshold for the £2,500 government grant, which once applied brings the price down to £32,150.

The other, non-eligible new models are priced at £36,030 for a City Pure Performance, £38,150 for a Style Pure, and £39,530 for a Style Pure Performance.
