Most drivers could complete weekly mileage on a single EV charge, Tusker finds

Date: 19 May 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

The weekly mileage of most drivers could be covered with a single charge if they switched to an EV, according to salary sacrifice firm Tusker.

It said a survey of more than 500 customers found 85% drove less than 200 miles each week, potentially well inside the 231-mile average range of the EVs Tusker offers.

In addition, a survey of more than 1,400 non-Tusker drivers found 82% came in under the 200-mile mark.

The surveys also found less than 7% of drivers covered more than 300 miles per week, meaning 93% could be covered by a single weekly charge of models such as the Volkswagen ID4 and Skoda Enyaq.

Tusker CEO Paul Gilshan said: "With the majority of new models offering a range of over 250 miles, drivers are less concerned about range.

"In fact, 'range anxiety' has moved to 'range awareness' as many drivers realise they can cover their weekly miles on one charge.

"Consequently 83% of drivers surveyed are now considering an electric car for their next vehicle, a rise from 74% in 2020."

Tusker also found that 63% of drivers were fairly or very interested in considering an EV on salary sacrifice.

EVs are now driven by 33% of Tusker's customers drivers, compared with 5% a year ago.
