EVs now fastest-selling used cars, Indicata reports

Date: 17 November 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

EVs have become the fastest-selling models on the UK used car market, according to data from market analyst Indicata UK.

It reports that the cars sold quicker on average in October than diesel models, which had been quickest to sell for most of the year so far, followed by petrol cars and hybrids.

Indicata said this was helped by EVs being more readily available than other fuel types.

Overall, supply constraints meant used car sales were down by 4.8% last month compared with both the previous month and October 2020. However, they were up by 2.8% compared with pre-Covid September 2019.

According to Indicata, the UK has also seen the highest used car price increases in Europe.

The company's UK sales director Jon Mitchell said: "Used car prices continue to rise and surprise the industry but with there being no signs of new car sales increasing any time soon more and more consumers are switching to the used market for their next car.

"EVs are making an impact now with more drivers looking to opt for zero-emission motoring which has to be good news on the back of the environmental commitments made in the COP26 conference."
