New Kia Niro unveiled

Date: 25 November 2021   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Kia has revealed the new, second-generation version of its Niro.

Key exterior styling features of the model, said to be inspired by the 2019 Habaniro concept car, include an extended version of Kia's signature 'tiger face' grille, 'heartbeat' LED DRLs, and a wider rear pillar which is said to improve aerodynamics as well as blend into boomerang-shaped tail lights.

As for the interior, it features recycled materials such as recycled wallpaper for the headlining, and seats made with material from eucalyptus leaves.

As with the outgoing model, the Niro will be available with conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains, though full technical details of these are yet to be announced.

Kia has however said that plug-in hybrid models will come with a new 'Greenzone' drive mode, which uses sat-nav and driving history data to automatically switch to EV-only mode in places such as residential areas or near schools and hospitals.

The new Niro will go on sale next year. Prices and UK specs are still to be confirmed.
