New Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV revealed

Date: 19 April 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new electric EQS SUV.

The new model is based on the same platform as the EQE executive saloon, and its near namesake, the EQS luxury saloon. It has the same 321cm wheelbase as the latter model, but is over 20cm taller.

Two rows of seats are standard, with a third available as an option, and Mercedes claims up to four golf bags will fit in the boot.

There's a choice of three powertrains: 360hp rear-wheel drive, 360hp all-wheel drive, and 544hp all-wheel drive.

Mercedes has quoted provisional range figures of up to 410 miles for the rear-wheel drive model and up to 380 miles for the all-wheel drive models on the WLTP cycle. It says a 10-80% battery charge will be possible in 31 minutes with a compatible DC charger.

The EQS SUV comes with Mercedes's Electric Intelligence sat-nav system, which factors charging stations into its route planning. The Mercedes Hyperscreen interior layout, with three screens included under a single glass cover, is also available.

UK specs, prices, and an on-sale date are yet to be announced.
