BP Pulse opens new Gatwick Airport EV charging hub

Date: 02 February 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

A new EV charging hub has been opened at Gatwick Airport by BP Pulse.

The new facility, at the airport's Q-Park car park, features three ultra-fast 150kW chargers, alongside four 50kW chargers, with up to ten EVs able to charge simultaneously at the location.

In addition, BP Pulse says the 150kW chargers will in future be upgraded to 300kW via hardware updates.

BP Pulse says the Gatwick facility, supported by UK Power Networks, is one of several major installations planned for this year, which will include an ultra-fast hub at Heathrow Airport.

BP Pulse CEO Akira Kirton said: "We want to bring convenient, fast charging where it is needed most. The opening of this latest hub at the UK's second busiest airport is another important step in our roll out of ultra-fast charging.

"Towards the end of last year we installed some of the first ultra-fast chargers on major UK motorways, and now we're starting 2022 with another industry first."

Q-Park UK managing director Adam Bidder said: "We are delighted to work with bp pulse on this project to deliver ultra-fast charging and support the electrification of our roads.

"Q-Park are focusing heavily on our sustainable urban mobility strategy and the bp pulse charging hubs such as this is a vital ingredient."
