Hyundai Ioniq 5 to get larger battery and tech updates

Date: 10 February 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Hyundai has announced updates for its Ioniq 5 EV, including a larger battery.

At 77.4kWh, the new battery surpasses the 73kWh battery which is currently the largest in the range, and should therefore allow a longer driving distance between charges, though official data on this is yet to be confirmed.

The 58kWh battery which currently serves as the entry-level option the range will also continue to be available.

Alongside the new battery, other upgrades to the Ioniq 5 range include the addition of digital interior and exterior mirrors as optional equipment.

The interior mirror displays a panoramic rear-facing view via a camera mounted below the car's rear spoiler, while the camera-based side mirrors are designed to reduce wind resistance, and provide a better view in bad weather.

Another new option to the range is a battery conditioning feature, which, when a charging point location is entered into the car's sat-nav, will automatically adapt the battery's temperature to ensure optimal conditions when it is reached, to improve charging performance.

The updated Ioniq 5 also gets smart frequency dampers, designed to improve the response of the rear axle suspension, to increase ride comfort as well as improve body control and handling.

The updated Ioniq 5 will be available to order from late spring. UK specs and prices are yet to be announced.
