New AFRs published by HMRC

Date: 23 February 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

New Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs) have been published by HMRC.

The rates are largely unaltered from the previous set published three months ago, with the only change a reduction in the rate paid for LPG vehicles with engines measuring 1,400cc or less, from 9p to 8p per mile.

The Advisory Electricity Rate for EVs is also unchanged, at 5p per mile.

Hybrids are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The new rates will apply from 1 March, but the old rates can still be used for up to one month from that date.

The new rates per mile are as follows:

Petrol:

1,400cc or less: 13p

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 15p

Over 2,000cc: 22p

Diesel:

1,600cc or less: 11p

1,601cc to 2,000cc: 13p

Over 2,000cc: 16p

LPG:

1,400cc or less: 8p

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 10p

Over 2,000cc: 15p
