Jeep Renegade and Compass gain mild hybrid powertrain option

Date: 20 January 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Jeep has added a new mild hybrid powertrain option to its Renegade and Compass SUV ranges.

The new e-Hybrid powertrain features a 1.5-litre, 130hp petrol engine, paired with a 48V, 20hp electric motor, functions of which include supporting the petrol engine when accelerating, and allowing limited electric-only running, for example when in low-speed traffic, or carrying out parking manoeuvres.

It is the second electrified powertrain option in both ranges, joining the 4xe plug-in hybrids. Petrol-only versions are also available.

Jeep says the new powertrain, which is front-wheel drive and comes with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, offers up to 15% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared with previous petrol models - the latter figure with the e-Hybrid between 130g/km and 139g/km with the Renegade, and 133g/km and 140g/km with the Compass, under official WLTP testing.

Along with the new powertrain, Jeep has also announced a new Upland special edition model, which it says features extensive use of recycled materials.

Both the Renegade and Compass e-Hybrids are available to order now. Prices are £31,130 for a Renegade Upland, and £32,130 for a Renegade with the S equipment grade, while for the Compass e-Hybrid prices are £32,895 with the Night Eagle equipment grade, £33,895 with Limited, £35,895 with Upland, and £36,895 with S.
