Shell converts filling station into its first UK EV charging hub

Date: 14 January 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Shell has opened its first dedicated EV charging hub in the UK, by replacing petrol and diesel pumps at an existing filling station with ultra-rapid chargers.

Nine 175kW chargers have been installed at the facility in Fulham, London, which Shell says are capable of charging a typical compatible EV from 0-80% battery level in 10 minutes.

The scheme is a global pilot, marking the first time the company has converted an existing site to cater solely for EVs.

Like all Shell EV chargers in the UK, those installed in Fulham use 100% certified renewable energy.

Shell global executive vice president for mobility Istvan Kapitany said: "EV drivers are looking for a charging experience that is as fast, convenient and comfortable as possible.

"This is exactly what Shell Fulham aims to offer. It joins our growing network of Shell Recharge sites at forecourts and other locations, our Ubitricity on-street charging network, and our Shell Recharge Solutions for homes and businesses as we increasingly help EV drivers to charge wherever they need it. It also gives us all a glimpse into the future of mobility."
