The start point for the best source of fleet information

The Springfield Group sees strong EV take-up with Lex Autolease

Date: 07 October 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

More than half of eligible employees of housebuilder The Springfield Group have taken up an electric company car through a scheme created with Lex Autolease.

The leasing company partnered with Springfield subsidiary Glassgreen Hire for the scheme, with EVs offered to 235 employees, and 135 of these having placed orders, with more than half delivered so far.

It is said the scheme will allow Springfield to cut emissions by 5.2t of CO2 per vehicle replaced, and will enable the business, which previously only offered car allowances, to reduce fleet costs.

To help encourage take-up, banks of EV chargers have been installed at Springfield's offices in Elgin and Larbert, and at Dawn Homes in Glasgow, with more planned for the Tulloch Homes office in Inverness. Investment is also being made in temporary mobile chargers, available to employees at construction sites.

The Springfield Group chief executive Innes Smith said: "We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, which means looking carefully at everything from the way we build our homes to the makeup of our fleet, to identify where we can operate more sustainably.

"With developments across Scotland, our employees are regularly travelling to our sites, so making the switch to electric company cars is a great step towards reducing our carbon emissions.

"Working in partnership with Glassgreen Hire and Lex Autolease has enabled us to make our sustainability ambitions a reality. I hope that our success can show the appetite for EVs among colleagues and help set a positive example at a pivotal time for sustainability in the construction industry."

Lex Autolease corporate relationship manager Shona Murray said: "Springfield's EV-only car scheme is a major success story. From board level to site managers and office staff, it is clear that everyone across the business is invested in helping reduce its environmental impact, and this has been reflected in the impressive uptake figures, with more than half of all eligible employees choosing to switch to electric.

"It is fantastic that Springfield is helping to strengthen the UK's charging infrastructure, as well educating colleagues on how to affordably access charging in their own homes. I hope that this will drive long term sustainable behaviour change and encourage more people to make the switch in future."
