Updated Kia Soul EV gets smaller battery option

Date: 04 October 2022   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Kia has announced updates to its Soul EV range, including the availability of a new entry-level battery.

The new 39.2kWh battery, offering a range of 171 miles on the WLTP combined cycle, sits beneath the existing 64kWh, 280-mile battery in the line-up.

The new battery can be charged from 0-80% in 54 minutes with an 80kW rapid charger, or from 0-100% in six hours and ten minutes with a 7.2kW home charger.

It comes paired with a 136hp electric motor, while the larger battery comes with a 204hp motor.

Also new to the Soul EV range is a two-grade structure, with the smaller battery coming with the new entry-level Urban grade, and the bigger battery with the Explore grade, which replaces the previously-available Maxx.

Standard equipment with Urban spec includes 17in alloy wheels, automatic full LED headlights, an 8in touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7in driver display, a reversing camera, front and rear USB sockets, automatic air conditioning, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition and junction turning function, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Further equipment with the Explore grade includes a 10.25in touchscreen with sat-nav, a seven-year Kia Connect subscription, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, privacy glass, automatic wipers, roof rails, blind-spot collision warning, and rear cross-traffic avoidance assist.

Prices start at £32,795 for Urban spec, and £38,995 for Explore. Orders are open now, with the first deliveries due during the final quarter of this year.
