New Volkswagen ID.7 revealed

Date: 17 April 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID.7, its new upper-medium electric saloon.

The new model - which has debuted in near-production concept form - will have a 286hp electric motor, and has a forecasted range between charges of up to 435 miles on the WLTP cycle, depending on battery size. Charging speeds of up to around 200kW will be possible.

The ID.7 is almost five metres long, and VW credits an aerodynamic design for a drag coefficient of around 0.23, helping efficiency.

The manufacturer says the ID.7 marks the debut of a new interior concept, which has been developed in response to customer feedback, including a new air conditioning operating system integrated on the top level of the infotainment system, as well as freely assignable favourites buttons, and a backlit touch slider.

A 15in infotainment screen will be standard, as will an augmented reality head-up display.

Available options will include a panoramic sunroof with smart glass, which can be switched between opaque and transparent settings by touch control, and Climatronic seats with heating, cooling, and drying functions.

A Travel Assist ADAS system includes an assisted lane-change function on motorways.

The ID.7's European launch is set for Autumn 2023. UK specs and prices are yet to be announced.
