Vauxhall Astra diesel engine option axed as range-topping estate and tech update introduced

Date: 14 April 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Vauxhall has announced the removal of the diesel engine option from its Astra lower-medium car range, along with the introduction of a top-spec version of the Sports Tourer estate variant, and new technology.

The manufacturer said its dropping of the Astra's previous 1.5-litre diesel engine option was in line with market trends.

It means the Astra is currently only available with plug-in hybrid or pure petrol powertrains, with a full EV option also due to arrive shortly.

The news comes as Vauxhall opens orders for the range-topping Ultimate version of the Sports Tourer, with standard equipment including adaptive LED pixel headlights, lane change assist, side blind spot alert, rear cross traffic alert, heated front seats in Alcantara trim, a head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, 18in diamond-cut alloy wheels, high gloss black roof rails, a powered tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

Prices for the Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate start at £33,765.

Vauxhall has also introduced the Intelli-Drive 2.0 technology package, which will be standard with Astra Ultimate and GSe models across both bodystyles. This includes advanced intelligent speed adaptation, designed to monitor both road signs and weather conditions and adjust the car's speed accordingly, and semi-automated lane change.

Vauxhall has also replaced chrome exterior trim on entry-level Design Astras with a gloss black finish.
