New Volkswagen Passat revealed

Date: 31 August 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volkswagen has unveiled the new, ninth-generation version of its Passat upper-medium car.

The new Passat will be available only as an estate, and come with a choice of two plug-in hybrid powertrains. These will have outputs of 204hp and 272hp, and come with a 19.7kWh battery, allowing an EV range of around 62 miles, and 50kW fast charging capability.

Other engine options will include a 150hp petrol mild hybrid and a 204hp petrol.

Compared with the outgoing model, VW says the new Passat has a 50mm longer wheelbase, with a 50mm increase in rear legroom. With seats folded, luggage capacity is up to 1,920 litres.

Available features will include a new DCC Pro adaptive chassis control system, and new ErgoActive seats with pneumatic pressure point massage function.

VW says a new cockpit setup with large displays and revised menus will also feature, in response to customer feedback.

A range of parking assistance systems will also be available, including Park Assist Plus, allowing the new Passat to drive into and out of parking spaces by remote control using a smartphone.

The new Passat is due to arrive in the first quarter of 2024, with a choice of Life, Elegance, and R-Line equipment grades. Full specs and prices are yet to be announced.
