Ford Mustang Mach-E set for battery upgrade

Date: 17 February 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Ford has announced plans to add a new type of battery technology to its EV line-up, starting with the Mustang Mach-E.

The manufacturer says the new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are capable of tolerating more frequent and faster charging, while using fewer high-demand, high-cost materials.

It also says the batteries are cheaper at scale, which it says will allow it to maintain or reduce EV prices.

Ford says the batteries will power a variety of next-generation electric cars and commercial vehicles, but they will first arrive in Europe this year with the existing Mustang Mach-E range.

An official WLTP range of up to 373 miles is being targeted from the new batteries In the Mustang Mach-E.
