New Peugeot 3008 and 5008 mild hybrids on the way

Date: 17 February 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Peugeot has announced details of new mild hybrid engine options for its 3008 and 5008 SUV ranges.

The new powertrain features a 136hp petrol engine, together with a six-speed dual-clutch electrified gearbox with an integrated electric motor.

It will replace the previous 130hp petrol automatic option for both models, with Peugeot claiming a resulting fuel consumption reduction of up to 15%.

Unlike most mild hybrids, the 48V system will allow the cars to be driven on pure electric power at low speeds, such as when manoeuvring and in heavy traffic.

Other functions of the system include allowing engine-off coasting at speed, and providing a torque boost during heavy acceleration, along with an extra 12hp.

The first 3008 and 5008 models fitted with the new powertrain will arrive this summer. Prices are yet to be announced.

Peugeot says the powertrain will subsequently be rolled out with other models in its range, including the 208, 2008, 308, 308 SW, and 408.
