Orders open for new Vauxhall Astra GSe and Grandland GSe

Date: 26 January 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Vauxhall has opened orders for the new GSe versions of its Astra lower-medium car and Grandland SUV.

GSe is a new electrified performance brand from Vauxhall, and its Astra and Grandland incarnations are both plug-in hybrids.

The Astra GSe, available as either a hatchback or Sports Tourer estate, features a 1.6-litre 180hp petrol engine with a 118hp electric motor, for a total output of 225hp.

A 12.4kWh battery allows an electric range of 40 miles for the hatch and 39 miles for the estate, meaning BIK company car tax rates of 8% and 12% respectively, with CO2 emissions figures of 25g/km and 26g/km.

As for the Grandland GSe, it becomes the most powerful model in Vauxhall's range, with a 200hp petrol engine accompanied by two electric motors, one on each axle to provide all-wheel drive, with a total output of 300hp. A 14.2kWh battery provides a 41-mile electric range, also incurring an 8% BIK rate, with a 27g/km CO2 emissions figure.

Both GSe models feature firmer suspension with frequency selective damping technology, designed to improved ride and handling.

The Astra GSe sits 10mm lower than the standard car, and features 18in alloy wheels, a black roof, and a GSe steering wheel, while the Grandland GSe gets 19in alloys and a GSe wheel (the pictured black bonnet is optional).

Both models feature driver assistance systems including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, drowsiness detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign assistant, cross traffic and side blind spot alert, and automatic speed assistant with stop function, while the Grandland also comes with advanced park assist.

The Astra GSe hatch is priced at £40,550, and the Grandland GSe at £43,700. The price of the Astra GSe Sports Tourer is yet to be announced.

The first deliveries are expected in early summer.
