The start point for the best source of fleet information

Nearly a third of fleets expected to grow, Arval finds

Date: 19 July 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Research by Arval has found that 29% of UK companies expect to operate a growing number of vehicles during the next three years.

The leasing company said that the most common reason cited by firms for this expected increase was company expansion (named by 76% of respondents), with other factors including HR needs (28%) and plans to introduce salary sacrifice schemes (25%).

The data has emerged from Arval's Mobility Observatory Barometer survey of fleet decision-makers.

Head of the Mobility Observatory in the UK Shaun Sadlier said: "While slightly down on previous years, the fact that almost a third of UK fleets are expecting growth in car and van numbers over the next three years feels quite significant.

"Overall, just 5% of those surveyed are forecasting that fleet sizes will fall, which is less than in 2022's research findings, and considering all that the fleet sector has had to handle in recent years - from the pandemic to production shortages - this underlines its resilience and core position in business transport."

Sadlier added that there were notable variances in growth rate forecasts among UK businesses of different sizes.

He said: "There is greater optimism among smaller companies, our research shows. While 16% of organisations with more than 1,000 employees predict growth, 26% of those with fewer than 10 employees expect an increase in their fleet size."
