Renault launching Mobilize vehicle-to-grid service

Date: 13 June 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Renault is introducing a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) service, designed to allow EV drivers to sell electricity from their car back to the grid, or use this energy to power their home.

The service, offered through Renault's Mobilize mobility division, will be introduced with the new Renault 5 electric supermini, due to arrive next year, with the service coming to the UK in 2025.

The service includes bi-directional on-board chargers and chargepoints, a Mobilize electricity contract, and a smartphone app designed to programme the service by setting when the car will be driven next and the desired battery level.

It allows power to be taken from the car in peak times when the cost of energy from the grid is high, and for charging of the car to take place when power is cheaper.

The service will also be rolled out with future Renault EVs.

Mobilize director of energy services Corinne Frasson said: "Thanks to Mobilize V2G, cars become an energy reserve. All drivers have to do is regularly connect their vehicle to the Powerbox to optimize their electricity bill and cut carbon from their mobility.

"On average, the cost of charging is cut by half. That is how Mobilize's mobility solutions are more sustainable and affordable."
