Kia Sportages join fire service fleet

Date: 30 March 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has added five Kia Sportages to its fleet.

The cars were purchased via the Crown Commercial Service framework, and supplied by Gravells Kia Bridgend, through Kia's Business Specialist Dealer network.

The Sportage is said to have performed best out of a number of different vehicles tested as part of a selection process, meeting the service's requirements for practicality, performance, and economy.

The Sportages, in plug-in hybrid GT-Line spec, have been fitted with emergency lighting and siren systems, as well as full conspicuity markings. Four will be used as driver training vehicles, and the fifth for emergency response.

The service's deputy head of fleet, engineering and logistics Richard Owens said: "We're thrilled to have introduced these vehicles into the service's fleet. This is yet another example of how MAWWFRS is embracing the latest technologies available in its emergency response and ambitions to reducing its impact on the planet."

Gravells Kia group fleet sales manager Mike Green said: "MAWWFRS's unique and untypical type of usage is proof that the Sportage is capable of going far beyond where its family-friendly SUV appearance may suggest.

"We are proud and delighted to have been able to help the team get into the right car for their job requirements and deliver an essential and life-saving service throughout Mid and West Wales."
