Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB updates announced

Date: 17 March 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled facelifted versions of its GLA and GLB SUVs.

Changes to both models include increased availability of electrified powertrain options, and revised styling.

The petrol engine options - producing 136hp, 163hp, 190hp, and 224hp - now come with 48V mild hybrid systems, allowing the petrol engine to be supported on start-up or under acceleration using energy recovered when braking, and also allowing the cars to coast with the engine off.

The GLA is also available with a 218hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is newly upgraded with a bigger battery, meaning an increased preliminary WLTP electric driving range of up to 43 miles, and a slightly more powerful electric motor.

Both model ranges also include 116hp, 150hp, and 190hp diesel engine options.

Styling changes to the GLA include a new radiator grille with vertical louvres and a horizontal fin, a bonnet with what Mercedes calls discreet 'power domes', and a redesigned front bumper.

The GLB also gets a new radiator grille - this time with four horizontal louvres - and its own redesigned bumper.

Inside, both models get the latest-generation MBUX infotainment system, including new display styles and an additional USB-C port. Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity now features on the GLA, and is due to arrive subsequently with the GLB.

UK specs and prices for the updated GLA and GLB are yet to be announced.
