New Hyundai Kona Electric powertrain details announced

Date: 07 March 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Hyundai has announced further details of its new, second-generation Kona SUV, including powertrain details for the Electric variant.

The new model was first revealed late last year, when it was confirmed it will follow its predecessor in being available with electric, hybrid, or ICE powertrains.

Hyundai has now announced there will be two electric options - Standard Range, with a 48.4kWh battery and 156hp motor, and Long Range, with a 65.4kWh battery and 218hp motor. Hyundai estimates the latter will have a range of over 304 miles under official WLTP testing.

As previously announced, the new Kona has grown in size compared with the first-generation model. In Electric form, the new car is 175mm longer, with a 60mm longer wheelbase, and is 25mm wider and 20mm taller.

Equipment will include dual 12.3in panoramic display screens and over-the-air software updates, while the Electric version will come with features including a one-pedal driving mode and interior and exterior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) outlets.

Advanced driver assistance systems will include forward collision avoidance assist, a blind-spot view monitor, remote smart parking assist, and driver status monitoring.

Full UK specs and prices are still to be confirmed, as are details of the hybrid and ICE powertrains.
