New AFRs include reduced diesel rates

Date: 26 May 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

New Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs) have been published by HMRC.

The new rates for company car mileage reimbursement include reductions across the board for diesel cars, while some rates for LPG cars have been increased.

Petrol rates are unchanged, as is the Advisory Electricity Rate (AER) for EVs, which remains at 9p per mile.

Hybrids are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.

The new rates will apply from 1 June, but the old rates can still be used for up to one month from that date.

The new rates per mile are as follows:

Petrol:

1,400cc or less: 13p

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 15p

Over 2,000cc: 23p

Diesel:

1,600cc or less: 12p (down by 1p)

1,601cc to 2,000cc: 14p (down by 1p)

Over 2,000cc: 18p (down by 2p)

LPG:

1,400cc or less: 10p (unchanged)

1,401cc to 2,000cc: 12p (up by 1p)

Over 2,000cc: 18p (up by 1p)
