Toyota Yaris updates include more powerful engine option

Date: 31 May 2023   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Toyota has unveiled an updated version of its Yaris supermini, including a more powerful engine offering.

As before, the Yaris is only available as a petrol-electric hybrid, but now in addition to the existing 116hp version, there is now also a 131hp variant, achieved via a more powerful electric motor and revisions to the car's power control unit.

Other updates to the Yaris include upgraded infotainment, with a new driver display measuring up to 12.3in depending on spec, and central infotainment screen measuring up to 10.5in. The Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system features cloud-based sat-nav as standard, and there's also wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.

The updated Yaris will also be available with a smart digital key feature, with up to five drivers able to access the car using their smartphones.

A new camera and radar system mean the Yaris's existing safety systems have been improved, and new features include acceleration suppression - designed to prevent sudden acceleration when there is a risk of colliding with a vehicle ahead. Also new are proactive driving assist, which is designed to help avoid familiar accident hazards when driving at low speed, and emergency driving stop, designed to bring the vehicle to a safe halt if the driver is incapacitated.

A new range-topping Premiere Edition will also be added to the Yaris line-up, with features including Neptune Blue bi-tone paintwork with a contrast black roof and pillars, and new-design 17in black machined alloy wheels.

Orders for the updated Yaris will open during the third quarter of this year, with deliveries beginning in early 2024. Full UK specs and prices are yet to be announced.
