Orders open for mild hybrid Vauxhall Astra

Date: 21 February 2024   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Vauxhall has added a 48V hybrid powertrain option to its Astra lower-medium car range.

The 136hp powertrain, already available with the Corsa small car and Grandland SUV, is available with both hatch and Sports Tourer estate versions of the Astra.

Compared with a 130hp petrol Astra, the new powertrain is said to offer a fuel economy improvement of up to 19%, as well as reduced CO2 emissions.

It can drive the Astra on electric power alone for short distances at low speed, such as when manoeuvring or in city traffic, and the electric motor also supports the petrol engine under acceleration.

The new powertrain is available with Design, GS, and Ultimate equipment grades. Prices for the hatch are £30,025 with the Design grade, £32,320 with GS, and £35,460 with Ultimate, while prices for the Sports Tourer are 332,225 with Design, £34,545 with GS, and £37,860 with Ultimate.

The first deliveries are scheduled for July.
