The Government has allocated £9m to a scheme to fund the installation of electric vehicle charging points at employees’ homes.
The funding is available to drivers who have regular access to a plug-in vehicle for work and offers up to 75% of the total cost of the installation up to a maximum of £900 (formerly £1000 under the Government’s previous scheme, which expired on 30 June). Individuals with their own, personal plug-in vehicles are also eligible for the grant.
The programme comes into force from 1 September and will run until either 31 March 2015 or until the fund runs out. The Department for Transport said it would treat any applications received in the interim period between the two schemes along “broadly the same lines”.
Transport minister Baroness Kramer said: “Uptake of plug-in vehicles is gathering pace and we want to make sure that people thinking about becoming part of this technological revolution have the confidence that they will always have somewhere to charge their car.”
