Audi has revealed the latest in its Ultra range of low-CO2 models, which sees new versions of the A4 saloon and A5 coupe emit 109g/km in 2.0 TDI 163 SE guise and offer 56.5mpg.

The core fleet upper medium A4 previously had a CO2 low of 112g/km, but that model was only available with 136hp, whereas the Ultra version adds a further 27hp, will hit 62mph in 8.3secs and reach 140mph (the outgoing diesel managed 9.3secs and 134mph).

The A4 is now level-pegging with its arch rival, the BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics, for emissions, but the latest Mercedes C-class is down to 103g/km.

The Avant estate model has also been subject to the changes and now offers 114g/km and 55.4mpg. Prices start at £28,320 for the A4 Ultra, £29,620 for the A4 Avant Ultra and £31,120 for the A5 Coupe Ultra.
